Wicca is a very unique religion. Individuality is not only accepted, it
is encouraged. Unfortunately, too many people treat "Wicca" as a catch-all religious title for whatever group of practices
they might cobble together. Using the "Charge of the Goddess" in a traditional Native American ceremony does not make that
ceremony Wiccan. It doesn't make the ceremony any more or less valid to the participants, it just isn't a Wiccan ceremony.
Gerald Gardner developed a philosophy of principles and practices that he called Modern Witchcraft and, eventually,
Wicca. He encouraged individuality and self-expression, but within the boundaries of Wiccan philosophy. Over the years, there
were changes in certain practices, and new traditions developed. However, most of these traditions stayed true to the basic
principles of Wicca.
Without claiming to represent all traditions or all Wiccans, I have put together a few ideas
that I believe apply to the majority of those who practice Wicca. I have also included a few things which I believe do not
apply to the practice of Wicca. I am not passing judgment on those who include any of these things, I would just like to suggest
that they choose a new name for what they practice. After all, that's what Gerald Gardner did!
